Great wine. Best $50 Burgundy you'll ever find - if you can find it. Absolutely stunning nose of cherries, flowers and loam. Fairly simple fruit (cherries, a bit of strawberries-and-cream) on the palate at first, but leaves a clear impression of depths concealed beneath the primary flavors. With a bit of time in the glass, it opens up, revealing layers of dark fruit, earth, violets. Long finish, with velvety tannins testifying to the wine's pedigree. About ninety minutes after that, it had closed up again. I thought it would have come back around, my friend disagreed. No wine left to settle the argument.

Aromas of fresh cherries and strawberries with just a bit of sweet earth. Similar flavors on the palate are elegant and classy. If this wine was a person it would be a female version of James Bond. Smooth, silky, clean, and pure mouth feel. Long and lingering finish.

Found this wound tight out of the bottle. After an hour decant, it woke up with rich earth on the nose and flower garden flavors. Flower garden flavors? Violets and rich earth. Like when you go for sushi and they decorate it with flowers, and you're not sure if you should eat them but you do because they're beautiful and you reason you already ate other things on your plate you were less sure about. Two hours later, the slumbering cherry woke up, but it was still earth that persisted on the long finish. A dish of pan-fried cod wrapped in pancetta accented the earthiness and the meat's bacony goodness. I give a 4- because I would have liked to see more fruit balance. On the other hand, I've never had Corton AOC, so I might be missing the point entirely. Will wait at least a year to try again, that will also give me an opportunity to build my palate by eating more flowers.

Bought several of these during the $24.99 sale a while back and just opened the first. Decanted about two hours. Had it with grilled chicken in a mild barbecue sauce and it went very nicely. Not as much fun by itself. Definitely old world, fruit was reticent, but overall very enjoyable. I'm doubtful about keeping this for any significant amount of time as the color is turning brown around the edges and tannins are mostly gone, but there is still some acidity to keep the finish interesting. Didn't really live up to its Grand Cru billing, but again the price was right.
