Not sure if $11.99 for 1.5L counts as "under $10" but since that's the equivalent of $6/bottle I'll pretend it does(!).
We had some neighbors over and decided to try the Wine Block Chardonnay, on the recommendation of Elizabeth Downer in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last year (see articles page). Price is supposedly "closeout" so I don't know if they aren't going to get any more, but there's still a bunch around and it's a nice find. It was from 2004, can't remember if it was Sonoma or Napa. Nothing fancy but very drinkable, simple and pleasant. Unique packaging, the box is actually a cube only 5-6" on each side, about the size of a small box of kleenex...you'd never guess it's 1.5L, but it is. Be sure to look on the bottom of the box for opening instructions, I didn't and screwed it up at first. The box says it will keep for weeks once opened.
I poured my wife a glass, had a taste, and 45 minutes later it was gone and we were opening a bottle of our "house" Chardonnay (Souverain) to keep things going. If you are expecting a crowd and aren't trying to impress anyone you could do worse.
