Melini Chianti 2010

Just a heads up on a wine that I just had to try. The Melini Chianti Borghi D'Elsa 2010 is in WS advance at 89 points and on sale at 6.99; how can you say no? Opened one tonight and it is quite nice, on the lighter side but with great cherry/strawberry notes, good acidity and subtle but silky tannins. Medium finish that gets stronger with more air time. Certainly a steal and I would imagine a great wine to pair with pastas. In my opinion, this blows away the Terra Rare Carignano on Chairman's Selection at 7.99, if any of you get a bottle, let me know what you think!

My bad, code number is 5285 for the 750ml, and the 1.5L is also available at 13.99, code 5822. I have seen this on sale for 5.99 (750ml) before, if that price hits while the 2010 is out the QPR on this is crazy.

Agree that it's on the lighter side. I prefer the Piccini Chianti for $10.99.

Right now the Melini Borghi D'Elsa is on sale for 4.99. Absolutely nuts how good this is for that price (the 2010). Just wanted to give a heads up!

Tried it with homemade lasagna while it's still $4.99! Thanks for the tip. It was a hit.

No problem! I bought two cases at the beginning of the sale, and now there isn't a bottle in my county, so probably was a good idea.

So I went out and bought a case of this based on what I read here. Took a bottle with us down to DC and drank it while watching a chick flick with the wife (no comments please). One glass in and, well, it reminds me of a $8 bottle of wine. Thin, no complexity, but not offensive either. As the movie gets worse, I imagine the wine might get better, but....

OK, so the chick flick is progressing (I think--I dozed off for a bit) and we ordered a pizza. Well, lo and behold, the wine has improved (movie still awful)! Don't get me wrong, it has only reached the $10 (maybe $12.37) plateau. I'll keep you up to date, still a glass or two left....

I bought a few of these on this recommendation at $5. It's a good wine for the price, even at $8, a decent food wine. Acidic, but some nice earth as well as fruit. Certainly not something to hunt down, but again for $5 a nice one to have a few bottles of.
