PA Wine Club?

Hey, how about an idea for a PA Wine Club? It'd be virtual, obviously. In some of the bigger stores I see displays for "only 400 cases produced", but of course they only get to a few stores so we can't all try them. I'd sign up for a monthly club that would send us these exclusives, we could chat about them here.

There could be some flexibility built in, an opt-in or out depending on the upcoming month's selections (email notification with a link). That way we keep the team honest and we don't get sent something we could go buy anywhere or something they're trying to get rid of. My greatest interest is that we could try things the Team comes across when overseas - smaller production stuff, and we don't need this for American wines.

Thoughts? I guess there needs to be a critical mass for it to work. Maybe in-store advertising too.

OK so maybe I'm an idiot, but it looks like there is already a PA Wine Club. Does anyone do this & have any feedback on whether it's worth it?

HA!

A friend of mine was in it 2-3 years ago. He said he went for the most expensive option (which would be the "Platinum" at $50-$75/month) and selected Reds only. He said it was good and was pleasantly surprised, and got exposed to some wines he said he liked. But he wasn't any more specific and I don't know if he still belongs to it. I have no idea what they sent him.

You can go to pawineandspirits.com and under the "Wine" heading on the main page, select "Connection Selections" from the drop down list to see a list of wines you can buy individually which have been offered through the program. There doesn't seem to be a list of what specific wines have been shipped in a given month for a given program however.

Personally I think there is a lot of room for improvement in this program. I'm not necessarily speaking in regards to the wines they select, but rather in the administration of the program in general. I'd like to see what wines shipped most recently for each program. The wines are supposedly selected by a panel of enthusiasts, which apparently is an anonymous panel...I think they're asking you to take a big leap of faith. And I believe a key component that is missing is discounts extended on program wines for members...just about every out-of-state winery and wine club does this.

My sister in Chicago is a member of several wine clubs. They ship ABC red wine and XYZ white wine, and if she likes one of them she calls and asks for more, and they sell it to her at the club discounted price. Joe Schmoe who calls and wants ABC red wine can get it only after all member requests are filled and pays a little more since he's not in the club. No reason why the PLCB can't do this as well!
