I never would have tried this without a recommendation from the Specialty Wine Buyer at my local store. After trying one bottle I went back for more. The back label could make you think they just threw together whatever juice was lying around, and maybe they did, but it works. 31% Verdelho, 25% Sauvignon Blanc, 18% Viognier, 10% Riesling, 7% Chardonnay, and 6% Semillon. To me it tastes like a good Sauvignon Blanc with a just little oak (which probably illustrates my lack of sophistication). It's reasonably priced at $10.99. PLCB code # 27564.

Was at a restaurant last week and they had this on the menu, but 2007 rather than '05. We ordered it, paid around $28 I think, and the verdict is the same: I really like this. My statement a year ago regarding the '05 "tastes like a good Sauvignon Blanc with just a little oak" doesn't really do this justice. It's not a typical Sauvignon Blanc from down under with the big grapefruit taste, this has so many interesting flavors that I can't describe.

We were also thinking about how quickly it went from harvest to table (I always think of Steve Martin in The Jerk sending back wine because it's old..."bring me something fresh") before realizing that Australian seasons are reversed from ours, so it's probably been more like 9 months or so which seems more reasonable. Got home and looked it up online, turns out the '07 is SLO only, $13.99. Not quite the deal as the '05 was but I'm still going to order some.
