Check out the new sale going on. Received this email today.

The Vilafonte's from South Africa are excellent and a great value.

I took a look-see this morning, and my general impression was that this was the leftovers from the previous sale. Most of the best stuff seemed to be gone, and the stuff that I might have had an interest in didn't pass the WineSearcher test.

I didn't notice the Vilafontes, though. I think those are new.

I hope the sales keep going strong: the ones they've had so far seem to have been clean-out affairs, sweeping the residue of programs that were either discontinued or revamped. It would make sense that there will be much less cleaning to be done going forward...

It will be interesting to see if they discount some of the higher end wines ($100+) to increase sales at this price level. These will need to get 20-40% lower and preferable below release prices for me to buy in.

Two examples. The Cheval Blanc 2004 has been on closeout at $200 for the past month, and they have 99 bottles left! It is not moving. Who will buy these in this economy. At some price point they will sell, but how much lower? The other is Quinta Do Noval Nacional 2003. PLCB discounted these by 50% down to $450 over a month ago, and they still have not moved.
