We can't let Pbgh have all the fun. Anyone interested in a Philly BYOB/Wine tasting club?

I would totally enjoy that. We could schedule it for immediately after the Cellartracker BYO outing, yes?
;-)
I kid because I love. Thanks for teeing these up. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help either event along.

So, is anyone willing to pick a location and date?

I'd be in +wife.
Moore Brothers' web site suggests a top ten of BYOs. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't been to any yet (there are a few great BYOs right near me that I frequent though).
http://moorebrothers.com/?cat=47.
I took a quick look at each BYO's website and I didn't see any as clear standout candidates for the type of thing we want to do (assuming we model off Pittsburgh). Thoughts on format & location?

Sorry, I have not been here in a while. So it sounds as though we might have something here? I was ready to give up hope. As for location, we have been to a fair number of the BYOs on the Moore Bros. list and the three most likely candidates (imo) would be:
l'Oca--we go there all the time and we know the owner/chef. I'm sure he would go for it (particularly during the week).
Cochon--I have had something similar there already.
Nan--I have been there when another table was having what looked like a wine club meeting.
Others that might work: Pumpkin and Mercato. Little Fish and Modo Mio too small. Copper Bistro closed and I think Marigold Kitchen is trying to re-open.
Just my thoughts. My wife and I are certainly in, and I could probably get another couple as well.
How soon? By the end of the month?

I could do Fri Sept 25 or 26 or Oct 2 or 3. If we do a weekend, we surely need to be in for full dinner (for the sake of the accommodating restau), but that sounds good to me. If folks prefer a weeknight were there may be less of a food commitment, I'm open to that.
I'm dying to go to Cochon but if you know the Oca owner that might be a better choice. Jeff, if you are will to call them to confirm it, count me in for 2.
Looking forward to this! Now I need to figure out my bottle choice. To the cellar!

Alright, I am leaving for France on 10/6. Let's do this before.
I will make the call. L'Oca, on the corner of Fairmount and Corinthian (between 20th and 21st) across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary.
Let me know which day is better: Friday October 2nd or Saturday October 3rd.
Do the Pittsburgh folks have any restrictions/guidelines on the wine choices?
Let me know if you are in and I will make the reservation.

No restrictions for sure, we've been keeping it pretty loose. Of course, if you ask everyone to bring a first growth (or conversely, under $4 wines) you'll probably limit attendance. I just said for the first one to bring something you want to share.

10/2 works for me. I'll bring... something. I guess I'll decide depending on what others are bringing. Maybe a Port or something else afterwards-ish.

Alright, 10/2. I will make a reservation for 6 at l'Oca. Let me know ASAP if you would like to join us so that I can get a bigger table. Fairmount Ave. between 20th and 21st. Northern Italian cuisine (but we frequently bring French/Cali wines). What time? We tend to go early 6:30? Or a little later?

I suggest 7:00, leaves more time to get there after work. Flexible though. See you there!

Anyone want to start talking wine?
And/or would anyone have a preference between a '90 Baumard Quarts de Chaume and a '95 Graham Quinta dos Malvedos to go with dessert?

Wow. Bringing out the big guns! I would vote for the QdC, myself. I was thinking of bringing a white Burg and something else--not sure what yet. Red makes sense (although I am a big sparkling/Champagne fan).

Both sound great! I suppose I'm more curious about the QdC but won't complain either way.
I'm planning on a Zind-Humbrecht Heimbourg Riesling 07 I brought back from the Z-H tasting room and a Tamarack Cellars Cabernet Franc Columbia Valley 06 from their tasting room. I like the personal touch & stories to share from the wineries.

@timo: love the choices! I've never had that particular Z-H bottling, and Cabernet Franc is something I never seem to get around to drinking as often as I think I should.
Barring dissent, I'll bring the Baumard and an Anderson's Conn Valley Pinot Noir.

It was much fun. The restaurant was one I'd meant to try, but hadn't gotten around to, and it showed very well, and the company was stellar.
Looking forward to the next one.

We took at picture of the wines, although looks like we can only ref the image and not post it here.
If it was a contest, Capaneus won both red & white categories with the Anderson Conn Valley Pinot and the Baumard Quarts de Chaume. My Zind-Humbrecht Heimbourg and massi3v's Torres Mas La Plana Cab drank very well. My Coteaux du Langedoc Dom Roc des Anges was too young and massi3v's white burg was a heart-breaker - a little spoiled. I tried not to show it, but I think Capaneus noticed I cried a little.
We already agreed the next meeting will be mid-Nov. I'm excited that the core group already has very preferences & focus, namely Piedmont, Champagne, Rhone and Mosel. Of course we all agree to good pinot & cab too. See you next time!

Sorry I have not posted earlier, but we are getting ready to run off to Alsace today! The evening was great fun and we are looking forward to the next as well. Timo summed up the wine experience rather succinctly--I have since tried another of the Puligny 1er Crus in question, and although not as bad as the one at l'Oca, this one was oxidized as well. Argh. Two more left.
Start thinking about what we will have the next time?

Sorry we couldn't make it but 7:00 from collegeville is not very doable. Maybe next time. Sounds like a great time.

Tim, you guys spent half the dinner talking about Alsace! You're putting the Rhone in there instead?
I
think
I like Alsace: I just end up drinking German wines because of the QPR. Okay, maybe I do think German Riesling is far and away best, but maybe I just don't know any better...

You should have piped up, Mike: it wasn't a school night, and I think this is a pretty accommodating bunch.
