Dreadnought Wines in Pittsburgh's Strip District, a licensed wine distributor representing over 150 wines from Boutique wineries worldwide, will play host to winemaker Steve Felton of Norman Vineyards for both an in-store tasting and a wine dinner at 'Toast' Kitchen and Wine Bar on Monday, July 13, 2009.
Dreadnought has carried the Norman Wines for many years, including their Cabernet, 'No Nonsense' Red, Merlot, 'Monster' Zinfandel, Barbera, Chardonnay, and 'Buzzard Tree' Zinfandel (they certainly do have a way with clever names!) and we will introduce their Buzzard Tree 'Tres Buitres' in an upcoming Wine Of The Month!
Steve Felten, with nearly 30 years of experience in winemaking, an obsessive drive for excellence and a highly discriminating palate, joined the Norman staff as winemaker. A true chemist, he believes that structure is the most significant component of wine.
The Normans had envisioned a small "family run" winery, producing perhaps a few thousand cases of wine per year, and for a couple of years their vision was realized. However, early on Norman wines received a warm welcome from their loyal customers and the wine press. With demand soaring, the Normans felt obliged to meet it, and production grew every year. By the mid-nineties they were using all of their own fruit, and began sourcing fruit from growers in the region who were selected for their excellent vineyard practices and fruit quality. Today the wines come from their home vineyards plus other growers throughout the Westside of Paso Robles. They also purchase fruit from the Cucamonga Valley and Edna Valley to round out the portfolio.
Dreadnought is pleased to host Steve's visit, and is excited about sharing him with our wine loving friends!
The evening will begin with an in-store sampling of Norman Wines, with Steve on hand to speak with Pittsburgh wine aficionados, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at Palate Partners/Dreadnought Wines, located at 2013 Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The cost will be $15 per person and will include a variety of Norman Wines, and breads and cheeses. Interested tasters can RSVP by calling (412) 391-8502.
Following the tasting, Steve and Dreadnought will move to 'Toast' Kitchen and Wine Bar, located at 5102 Baum Blvd., in Shadyside, for a multi-course wine dinner, featuring 5 Norman Wines, including a dessert wine.
In Toast Kitchen & Wine Bar, chef/co-owner Chet Garland and his partner Paul Tebbets speak to today's taste for smart, casual, comfortable dining, offering good value. Chef Garland has long been a promoter of chef-farmer partnerships and seasonality. The almost daily changing menu reflects his love of clean flavors and comforting foods -but always with singularly personal style -as well as his experience cooking in the South. The flexible kitchen encourages diners to order as little or as much as they want and in whatever order.
The cost for the wine dinner will be $85.00 per person, including taxes and gratuities. Spaces are extremely limited, and pre-paid reservations are required by calling (412) 391-8502.
