Now that
Elbow Room has had the chance to break in its recently installed floor-to-ceiling wine wall, which houses approximately 100 different wines from regions around the globe, it's time to bring on the wine tastings. And that's exactly what the restaurant is doing: Each month, wine buyer Katie Vojtko selects a specific varietal--this month--and then she chooses three or four bottles from different regions, which highlights the varying characteristics of the wines. "I'm excited to have the opportunity to introduce Pittsburgh to some awesome wines at a great value," Vojtko says.
She'll pair with cheeses from Pennsylvania Macaroni Company and flatbread pizzas from Bites & Brews, which is Elbow Room's next-door neighbor. "I'm fascinated when these unique regions produce what are considered as more traditional varietals," says Vojtko. Be on the lookout for summer-inspired wine tastings--and maybe even wine dinners--in the coming weeks. On Wednesday, May 19, Vojtko partners with Palate Partners, located in the Strip District, to feature white wines she says are "quirky and unusual ... they're wines that people won't necessarily be familiar with or think of when they think of white wine"
