Let's get this thing rolling. Biba will gladly have us back. We will do a pre fixe in the $50 range per person (including tax & tip). For those of you that have been there before you know what to expect. For those who haven't been, what are you waiting for?

Looking at early march, possible dates would be the 3rd, 10th, or 17th. Let's see what works best for the group.

Mark, you mentioned a theme, would you kindly refresh the memory on that one.

Lurkers! You know who you are, please come out and play, we don't bite.

You know I'm there baby – probably the 10th or 17th work best at this point, the 3rd is 50/50.

I think bigred wins the door prize for fastest response.

"Dead or Alive"

Bring a wine that has someone's name in the winery or cuvee, e.g. Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, then we guess whether he or she is dead or alive. (All smart phones must remain out of reach!) For obvious reasons, do not declare the name of the wine you are bringing, maybe just the varietal or region? Be prepared to explain who the person from your wine is or was, when they were born, died, etc. Additional info like how they got into winemaking or came to have a wine named after them might also be interesting.

Of the dates above only the 17th would work for me. Feb 25th would also work.

Hello from a lurker - since ecola specifically invited me/us, am responding
Can do several of those dates, but as Mark is my ride, would have to coordinate and apparently he can do none of them? Or is Bon Jovi disinvited after all?
A named person wine, huh? Interesting concept. I assume Duke of Burgundy does not count as a reach for a French pinot??

"Duc de Bourgogne"is not a name, but a title.

Can it be a last name like Foley Claret or does it have to have first and last name?

3rd, 10th and 17th all work for me. I hope last name only works...

Sure I don't see why not. If you get into something like Homer Simpson Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Marge's Cuvee then the person bringing the wine could potentially have everyone guess about either Homer or Marge, but that should probably be ecola's call.

We'd be good the 3rd and 10th. Out of town on the 17th.

Mark- what if Pearl Jam plays instead of Bon Jovi?

Thanks Isabelle for leading the lurkers and coming out.

Oh wait my schedule just freed up!

Honestly though it looks like my schedule is opposite that of dontime and acorelli's. We will be getting back in town on the 10th, not sure what time yet. A tasting that evening wouldn't be ideal but might be possible nonetheless, let me check the flight times.

I checked our flights and we don't get back until early Saturday evening, so unfortunately I'm out for the 10th. Crowd rules and if I have to miss this one I'll be disappointed, but somehow will find a way to survive...

We are on for the 10th. Sorry to anyone who can't make it.

Since Mark will not be able to make it, I don't want to steal his theme, so that can wait for another day. I'd like to do Petite Sirah. Big wines and big food. I'll see if Biba has some T-Rex laying around to throw on the grill. Bring em bagged. I'll try to be as organized as Big Red, but no promises.

Can you really drink petite syrah with food? Biba will need T-Rex, at minimum, for these BIG reds. Looking forward to it.

Put me down for two. Now, to go buy some Petite Sirah, as I have none. I have Syrah in small bottle -- does that count?

In for 2 – I'm all for the 'big' petite sirah theme. In fact, this may shape up to be the "year of bigred" given this tasting and the fact that Tantore is toying with the idea of a Round 2 BIG Cab weekend in the summer...that is, until Mark tries to ram in one of his Pouilly-Fuissé tastings or the like ;)

We should be good for two also. Have a number of PS on hand and some more waiting to be shipped.

In the interest of science, beaverbob, Jason from Biba, and I, tasted through some petite sirahs tonight. One from Russian River, two Dry Creeks, and one Santa Barbara. Mrs. Beaverbob made a variety of dishes to taste with the wines. Jason has a plan that it sure to please.
