Pittsburgh Tasting #61

Author bigred

Figured it was about time for another tasting. This one is going to be on Sat June 4th, (time TBD around 7?)

Venue is Biba, in Beaver where our group has been a few times before; always good food. Details to come on that.

The theme will be Rhone in nature, but what I’d like to do is a blind tasting of Rhone’s v. “Rhone Rangers”. (RRs being loosely defined as western producers promoting Rhone grape varietals; for our tasting, the producer does not necessarily have to be a bona-fide RR “club” member :). Both whites and reds welcome.

I’ll cap this at 14 participants, given the size of the restaurant.

Please let me know if you plan to attend, and also if you plan to bring a Rhone or a Ranger, so I can see how we balance out.
I will have 2, + 2 guests coming.

OK Mark and jlburd, sorry you can't make it.

I heard from rarffa that he and the Mrs plan to come. They are in Australia and having connectivity issues, so posting that they are in for 2.

Assuming time is 7:00...

Have a call into BIBA about start time; please keep flexible a bit around 7:00 but that is what I am looking at.
Looks to be a crowd on the smaller size, which is fine. My guests are tentative, so we may just have 9 or 10; still a couple days to for others to join in....

Also, I am looking to bring 2 bottles of actual Rhone to balance the Rangers. I'll also bring dessert wine.
A starter wine would be welcomed.

I will bring a Rhone - are we doing this blind? brown bags, foils off?

I will gladly bring a starter, but it will not be in theme (i.e. not a Rhone white) - unless someone else can do better in which case I will defer...

Thanks Isabelle for the starter.

We are on for a 7:00 start saturday. Jason has worked up a nice, varied multi-course menu. Cost will be $50/pp out the door (includes dinner/tip/ tax/Johnstown flood tax).

One of the dishes will pair best with white, so if anyone has the wherewithal to include a Rhone or Rhone style white in the tasting, please post as such; otherwise I will see what I can cobble up.

Will be blind, so standard brown bags and foils removed please.

Were in for 10 as I have 1 guest coming, but still room for more if you post by Thurs.

One of my Rangers is white.

I didn't realize we were going prix fixe, Bigred. That's rather inconvenient as my +1 is vegetarian. (Fish, eggs, cheese are ok)

I would like to make a plea to all dinner organizers to make the finances clear as early as possible. It makes a real difference to some of us.

Points taken acorelli; let me reach out to the restaurant to see if they can accommodate a vegetarian dish.
