Wow that was fast! I saw Miner Oracle for $19.99, Trefethen Special Reserve Chard for $14.99, plus a couple others. Logged in, and they were already gone! Inventory page (not updated in real time) shows 329 units of the Oracle, so they sold a whole bunch REALLY quickly.

Oh well, some others are still there...

Yeah, this stuff is flying! All the $15 bottle are gone. I just secured some Whitehall Lane, Puligny Montrachet, Malbec and St Emilion. Wow, I got too excited over some of the others but got too distracted by work to act fast enough. Bummer, but still excited about these.

Thanks for the heads up. Picked up a couple cases of the Puligny Montrachet. Great price, great wine. Got here a little late and not much left. Really appreciate the post!

Mark,

How do you sign up to get Emails directly from the store like you did to alert you about this special sale?? Would have liked to get some of these great values, but found out way too late & everything I wanted was basically gone!

Pazos,

Many (most? all?) Premium Collection stores have e-mail lists that are run by the local buyer at the store. I am on distribution lists from two different stores and each sent a heads up regarding the sale, one beforehand and one shortly after it started. Signing up is typically a manual process done in person at each store. Just ask to talk to the Premium Wine Buyer at the store and they'll usually hook you up.

I also somehow got onto a list from the LCB in Harrisburg, not exactly sure how or can't remember, and they too sent a notification shortly after the sale had begun. There is a link at the bottom of each message they send to unsubscribe, but nothing for how to sign up. Do you have an account on www.pawineandspirits.com ? I do, so maybe that's where it comes from.

Of course, I didn't actually read those e-mails until after the wines mentioned above were already gone!

Mark,

Thanks for all your insights. I do have an active account on pawineandspirits.com, but our high security firewall filters out a lot of stuff, so it might have been deleted...I'll talk to my local store buyer about getting on his list.

Some Sommelier Collection Wines that are in stores have been reduced as well. The LCB doesn't publish a list of specific Sommelier Collection wines, so sifting them from the list of Chairman's Selections is a somewhat manual task. There may be others (and if you find some please post them here) but here is what I have found so far.

(Some of these are only in one or two stores but you could probably have them transferred.)

Champagne de Venoge Grand Vin des Princes 1993 Was $69.99 Now $29.99

Marchesi de Frescobaldi Merlot, Toscana Castelgiocondo Lamaione 2003 Was $44.99 Now $19.99

Montevetrano Colli di Salerno IGT, Campania 2003 Was $62.99 Now $29.99

Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2000 Was $59.99 Now $41.99

Uvaguilera Aguilera Palomero 2000 Was $53.49 Now $29.99

Also, not a Sommelier Collection wine, but the following Chairman's Selection has been reduced a bit as well:
Beringer Merlot Bancroft Ranch 2003 Was $49.99 Now $39.99

FYI they have added several wines back onto the sale list on pawineandspirits.com. Cinq Cepages '03, Whitehall Lane 2-pack, Hastae Quorum, etc.

Miner Family Oracle is available at $19.99 per bottle again. Ordered 24, and I got a case of 12, and had to remove the other from the cart. Dont know if they had extra in inventory or if they are limiting you to 12.

Also, be aware that the Latour Montrachet is Puligny, as opposed to the Chassagne that was previously listed.

So it was YOU who took the last Oracle! It's isn't listed now. (Care to part with a couple??) Interestingly it wasn't on the night of the 7th either, so maybe they are sporadically adding the odds and ends.

However I think I may have gotten the last Cinq Cepages '03 the other night. Added 2 to my cart and upon checkout it made me remove one. Shortly thereafter it wasn't listed any more.

The Montes Folly Syrah and the Louis Latour Puligny Montrachet les Folatieres are back on the PLCB site for the Sommelier Sale. I guess there are more available.

FYI

They have added back the Louis Latour Batard Montrachet 2000 ($49.99) this morning, and Whitehall Lane 2-pack ($49.99) has been there for a few days now.

Hoping someone here might know: I recently got an e-mail from the PLCB apologizing for glitches in the Sommelier Collection sale, yadda yadda.

*And* mentioning that they intended to continue holding such sales including one "starting December 1st".

Any idea - or educated guess - what might be involved? I'm going to have to decide soon whether to pick up the Fall Whisperwine case or hold my dollars in abeyance...

I got that e-mail too...

Apparently it will be regular stock items that are selling slowly, not additional reductions on existing Chairman's or Sommelier collection wines. No idea what will be included or how big the discounts will be. But if you've been eyeing that $8500 magnum of Screaming Eagle on the web site this might be your big chance!

If the Screaming Eagle drops to $8000, I'm all over it. Sound like a perfect Tuesday night wine. I'll get a case!

What's the vintage on the Eagle? If they try to pass off the '03 for anything more than $85,000 you're being robbed!!!

Opened the 2000 Louis Latour Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru Thanksgiving day. It was rich without coming across as creamy or oaky, and a really nice wine overall and everyone enjoyed it. Unfortunaltely we didn't chill the first bottle long enough. In the end I was glad to have paid $50 during the Sommelier Collection going-out-of-business sale rather than the original $120, let alone the $220 "retail," otherwise I would have been a little disappointed.
