My List (Beta)

PAWineTalk is happy to announce our newest convenience for wine buyers in Pennsylvania, My List. With My List, registered PAWineTalk users can enter up to ten wines and track their availability in each of ten different state-run Wine & Spirits Stores. Once a user has entered their lists of wines and stores, they can return for an update as often as they wish without the need to re-enter the information again.

The My List resource is in Beta testing currently, and functionality is subject to change. As always, comments, feedback, and suggestions are welcome. Just use the feedback form at the bottom of the My List page, or post a reply to this topic.

When I try to add a wine it tells me the wine is already on my list, but it's not :-(

Getting ready for a big push in functionality of the My List feature. No new capabilities as yet, however, it is now MUCH easier to select a store and/or a wine to add to your list. Everyone is encouraged to try this out.

For those of you already using the feature, hopefully you have noticed the improved performance when updating your inventory, as of a week or two ago.

We've had a couple requests to expand the number of wines allowed on your list, and it's looking like we will be able to do that at the expense of the total number of stores. Nothing is final, but it's looking like we can push the maximum number of wines to 20 while dropping the maximum number of stores to 7. Should be a good tradeoff as very few people have chosen more than 7 stores. However, those maximums will only be available to PAWineTalk contributors. Haven't determined what the maximum sizes will be for non-contributors but they will be somewhat lower.

Questions and comments are welcome.

Great feature! I tried adding some of the upcoming chairman's selections but they couldn't be put on the list. Any plans to add a "add to my list" link from the ratings pages?

The increase to 20 wines on My List is greatly appreciated!

I can't imagine someone routinely shopping at more than 7 stores.

I would guess if need be someone could create more than one account here, and if they are indeed actually buying that much wine...

Thanks for your efforts

I guess there's nothing that can be done about not being able to put in the Upcomings?

My List - Add a Wine

There is no current item with that code number. This error can occur when trying to add an Upcoming Chairman's Selection to your wine list that the PLCB has not yet entered into their database. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Like phillywf - i would find this most useful for tracking the "arrival" of CS. Since the my notifications work with Upcoming CS codes, I wonder why My List doesn't. i'm sure there is a reason, but it would be much simplier for me to check My List once a day than go through 30 separate emails, each with one wine, one store.

Updated the My List pages today as follows:

1. Adding wines is simpler now, just type part of the name OR code number to get a drop-down list of choices, same as on the Wine Availability Map. However unlike on the Wine Availability Map, Upcoming Chairman's Selections are now included in the choices.
2. When adding a store, you can pick a name for it as before; you can now also pick from a list of names that other PAWineTalk users have already entered for that store.

And now the bad news... We have revised the maximum number of wines and stores you may have on your list: The new limits are 5 wines and 5 stores. (For PAWineTalk contributors, the limits are 10 wines and 8 stores.)

The majority of users are within these limits. However if you currently exceed these limits, you can keep all the wines and stores currently in your lists and you will continue to see inventory for all of them, but you will not be able to add any new ones.

For those of you who haven't tried My List we encourage you to check it out. When used in conjunction with the PAWineTalk Daily e-mail it is a very convenient way to keep track of which wines are in which stores on a daily basis.

As always, feedback is welcome.

Thanks

So what are the requirements to be considered a contributor?
I would really like to track 10 wines or more...

If there are resource limitations then why try to recruit new users to "My List" while you have implemented limits of current users?

Typically I print a copy of my list to go shopping. Should I shop for less?

You can become a PAWineTalk contributor here:
http://www.pawinetalk.com/contribute/
Any amount is fine.

Yes there are resource limitations. The more people searching on more wines in more stores, the slower things run and the longer it takes to generate the inventory included in the PAWineTalk Daily e-mail among other things. Those limitations can be overcome with more horsepower, bandwidth, etc., which cost money.

Just trying to find a balance in which everyone who wants to can take advantage of this service, and if some people REALLY like it and use it a lot then perhaps they can contribute to help keep things going. Can certainly consider modifying limits for contributors if there is demand.

Thanks for your understanding.

Admin - I really like the functionality and I am not complaining. However, I get different results when using My List (after updating) than I get from the daily email update. Can you explain (again) how they work and why they would be different? For example, yesterday's email showed 36 bottles of the Expressions Pinot at store 231. My List shows none, as does the wine availability map.
Thanks.

Dontime, fair question. It's a little complicated but basically we depend on the PLCB for data, and if we can't get what we need when we need it you can see results like your recent experience. We need to get better about dealing with such situations to try to avoid passing along misleading info. Typically any issues will be around no availability vs availability, rather than 5 units vs 50 units, if that makes any sense.

My list inventory does the exact same thing behind the scenes as what is run when generating the daily e-mail.
