So how do the rest of you feel about full-disclosure? The PLCB is quick to list favorable pro reviews for its products. But on the subject wine the only description on the PLCB site are the following winery notes.

Winery Tasting Notes: 'Our 2007 Pinot Noir Santa Maria Cuvee is the flagship of the KV portfolio of wines. Deeply pigmented this pulple (sic), delicious wine displays aromas of Asian spice and ripe berry precede flavors of Montmorency cherry blueberry and strawberry. Bdght (sic) acidity and fine grain tannins are complimented by a long creamy lactic finish.

Left out was the following Spectator review:

82 points - An earthy style that's pungent and marked by smoked herb, tar, dried berry and mineral more than pure fruit. Drink now. 6,317 cases made. –JL

Good marketing or a lack of integrity?

No they do it all the time, and so does just about everyone else.

I'll get an e-mail pitching four different wines and there will be a review of each, but the review of each wine will be from a different source. I have no doubt the retailer uses only the highest scoring review available.

At the end of the day, it's buyer beware, and when no 3rd party review is shown or quoted, be especially cautious.

I take absolutely no stock in the winery's notes, unless it's a reputable maker.

KV can only thrive if they make great wine & sell alot of it. If they can't do the former (and that seems to be the consensus) they can still thrive if they do the latter. Don't forget that Chrysler turned its business around in the early 1980's by making the "stylish" Aries K. Anyone who makes wine will tout their product. The good news is that the only way to find out if they are right is by drinking it!

Good marketing! They have a product to sell so naturally they wouldn't post a low score. Just as any other retail establishment (whatever they're selling) wouldn't post a bad review. Or does the PLCB owe it to us because of all the state monopoly stuff? On another point, there's been several times I have totally disagreed with a WS score, both ways. It's all subjective!!!

I think PLCB should start posting notes on Chairmans Selections from PAWineTalk members!!!!

The Kenneth Volk wine is not the Santa Maria Cuvee, it is the 2007 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir. I'm drinking it right now. I think the incorrect description is on the PLCB site.

ecola, can you please double-check the code # just to make sure? Then we'll bring it to the PLCB's attention. Not the first time this has happened, as you well know! Thanks.

Mark, ecola is correct. It is the Santa Barbara County 2007.
