Dubakella - who's going first?

I was curious about a "Pinot Gris Rouge" and went and checked this out.

Calling it red/rouge seems odd since it looks to be more like amber at least when viewed through the bottle. I didn't know the world needed a 14.9% ABV Pinot Gris, but apparently Andrew Carini believes we do. Yup, Dubakella is made by Carini...there's an ever-so-small Carini logo in the bottom corner of the back label. I'm very curious, but not $19.99 curious.

I'm gonna try it. I've had other Pinot Gris with skin contact and am looking forward to this one.

PLCB has quite a relationship with Carini.

I don't know when the next Chairman's tasting will be. It's usually March. Maybe I'll taste it there.

How you drink it is your own business but that's TMI for this kind of website.

I would have tried it because Mark fairly threw down the gauntlet but I like Pinot Gris anyway so it should be interesting. And 20 bucks for science is hardly too much...

They usually call these "orange" wines. The Terlato Pinot Grigo was very nice. The amount of skin contact is always tough to judge by color alone. I'll try it for $20.

Are these wines usually considered "white"? Is this a dessert wine?

OK I bit but when I try to rate this I get some strange stuff:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /usr/www/users/pawine/detail/index.php on line 237

I don't know about boolean but I give this a booyah. Great nose (although if I close my eyes I smell a little white Zin aroma). A whiff & first taste of Champagne, some Pinot characteristics, grapefruit, but then mineral flintiness. The finish is medium but weird. Starts out like a long, coating finish but after about 15 seconds just phhtt - gone. Had it a room temp out of the bag. Interested to see how it is cold (sorry ecola)

Got it (see rating). Ps - definitely not a dessert wine

Maybe the worst wine I have ever tried. See my note. I may actually go to the trouble to return this - less the small glass we choked down - and buy a couple of boxes of Franzia - which is much more drinkable than this.

Did you put the minus sign on the wrong side?

Here's my review: A classic "orange" wine made from Pinot Gris. Skin contact is not over the top. Rusty in color, with tree fruit and a hint of spice. Medium + body (15% abv). Medium finish of pear and pineapple. A freak show, but like fine art, it makes you think!

Great. Would you mind adding this rating on the wine page?
