Just found a great deal on a sample pack of three Cali Pinots. Quality stuff, easy to acquire. Admin - can I disclose details?

Don't forget, shipping is not allowed to Pa.

Winery now shows that they are sold out of the sample three packs. I must have gotten one of the last ones. Sorry.

Ah, but it is. You are just required to check that the wine you want it is not available through the PLCB (if it is you have to buy it from them), and if not, then you are required to pay PA taxes on it. If you satisfy that the practice is perfectly legal.

Or at least until the legislature gets around to changing the law based on the Supreme Court ruling of Granholm v. Heald which basically says PA's current treatment of in-state vs. out-of-state wineries is unconstitutional. It's only been five years, why should we expect them to act so quickly?? Advice: write your state congressman and ask them what their position is; e-mail usually works fine and it takes 30 seconds. Then keep that in mind the next time you go to the polling booth.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Dontime!

That is pretty unrealistic to get wine from small boutique wines that are in demand. By the time licensing fees, additional shipping charges, handling fees along with all the tax's the wines are not affordable. I have written to Jane Orie and many others about the Pa laws. They all are for changing but will do nothing. After all, if direct shipping becomes available in Pa just think of all the 17 year olds that will be able to buy $500 cases of wine!

bbgamer,

Interesting regarding Senator Orie's position. I've read elsewhere that she is against changing the law for exactly the sarcasm you site...she was quoted as being afraid that minors would buy wine over the internet. I'll have to go back and see how recent that quote was and if her official stance has changed.

Sounds like you're in Pittsburgh's northern suburbs, as am I. I wrote to Mike Turzai a couple years ago and he replied in both e-mail and snail mail regarding the proposed law he was supporting to allow direct shipping. Of course, it hasn't gone anywhere...

The Supreme Court ruling doesn't address taxes, it's just about equal treatment of in- and out-of-state wineries. So yes, there's nothing that says direct shipment has to be affordable!

I have contacted Jane Orie and also responded through Free the Grapes. I heard back from Orie and I forget who responded from Free the Grapes. They both said they support free shipping but it would create underage drinking which is their concern . I can't understand this when the wines are expensive for teens and you have to have a person over the age of 21 to sign for them when delivered. A bunch of double talk.

Yeah, just look at all those kids in West Virginia buying Cabernet Sauvignon over the Internet. Of course they are also cutting school so they can be home to take delivery without their parents knowing. Please!

Remember her position when she's up for re-election...
