Anyone have a good Rose recommendation? We've enjoyed Jaboulet Parallel 45 Rose the last few summers but I wanted to find something else to try. My parents served us Red Bicyclette the other night but it was just a touch bitter...although it was already open and they are known to keep open wines for days and days at room temperature rather than dumping it so who knows if it was a fair sampling.

I've been noticing a lot more "premium" roses in the $20 range which to me seems crazy...one of the main appeals has always been good easy-drinking wine at a great price.

Thanks for any ideas!

Rob Kimball at McIntyre Sq has a fondness for these I think. He recommended a Spanish rose a couple years ago that was dry and fruity, got better after it warmed a few minutes. McIntyre seems to always have 2-3 of these between $10-15 in summer (if you've already been-sorry)

J. Vidal Fleury Cotes du Rhone - #64825 - $15.99
Surprisingly dry for a refreshing rose wine. It might be SLO, listed by Majestic Wine & Spirits.

Zippy, is that a Rose? The listing just says Cote du Rhone. Item #57569 says Vidal Fleury Cote du Rhone Rosso, for $12.99. But either way you have to order a case and I'm just looking for a couple bottles.

Thanks

You are correct. The code is 57569 for the rose. Featured at a recent wine dinner, and it was the surprise hit of the night! Split a case with friends.

I spoke with Rob at McIntyre today and his response was a sarcastic "Good question." He doesn't have any! (Or at least, nothing he recommended.) He told me to contact Harrisburg, which I just did.

Mark, have you tried Tavel from the Southern Rhone? There have not been any Chairman's that I know of, but I have seen & bought it from individual store's specials in those cut-outs. I recently had my last bottle of "Domaine des Carteresses 2006 and I'm missing it already. Tavel are heftier that most roses, usually fully of strawberries and a brighter red color. One of my favorite spots in Tavel is Chateau D'Aqueria, but not sure where you can get these.

Just looking through the July issue of Bon Appetit magazine and there is an article on dry rose wines for the summer. Starts on page 72 with a list of suggestions on page 75. The Bonny Doon is listed #16113 at $13.99.

Timo, nice to hear from you. I've heard of Tavel but never tried any, I'll take a look. Same for Bonny Doon, Zip, have seen but not had. I guess I have some new things to try!

BTW just got an e-mail from a local store, Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone Belleruche Rose 2007 is now in stock, for $8.99/bottle, code 21239. Haven't tried it (yet).
